How We Calculate Shipping Costs
At our store, shipping costs are calculated based on “volumetric weight” (weight based on size). This method follows the rules set by shipping companies.
What is Volumetric Weight?
Volumetric weight is the weight calculated based on the size of the package (length × width × height). Shipping companies care about package size because space in trucks and planes is limited. Sometimes, the cost is determined by size rather than actual weight.
Example:
• Actual Weight: 1 kg
• Box Size: 30 cm × 30 cm × 30 cm
• Volumetric Weight Calculation: (30 × 30 × 30) ÷ 5000 = 5.4 kg
→ In this case, the shipping cost is calculated for 5.4 kg.
Important Note: Even if the volumetric weight is 5.4 kg, the shipping company may round it up to 6 kg. This means the shipping cost might be slightly different.
Why Use Volumetric Weight?
Shipping companies consider that large packages, even if light, take up valuable space in trucks or planes. This is a common rule used by all international shipping companies, not just us.
